About The Books
This is the abridged English translation of the classic work, Al-Bidayah wan Nihayah. This set contains all 8 books which have been translated into English so far.
Al-Bidayah wan Nihayah (The Beginning and The End) by the renowned scholar Abu Al-Fida, 'Imad ad-Deen Isma'eel bin 'Umar bin Kathir (Hafiz Ibn Kathir), is considered one of the most authoritative sources on Islamic history. A unique feature of the book is that it not only deals with past events, but also talks about future events mentioned by Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him) until the Day of Judgement.
This set contains following books:
1. Early Days: Stories of beginning of creation and the Early Prophets Adam to Yoonus
This book is the first part from this enormous work. It starts by describing the beginning of creation from the Throne and the Kursi, the Universe and all that is in it, such as the angels, the Jinn and humans. This book continues to early Prophet Adam (Aadam) upto Prophet Yunus/Younus (A).
2. Life and Times of the Messengers
This book contains the stories of Prophets Moosa, Samuel, Zakariyya, Yahya, Eesa, Dhul Qarnayn, Luqman & Bani Israel.
3. The Valley came Alive: Life of the Last Messenger
Contains a detail account of the life and times of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) taken from a number of historical and traditional sources .
4. Miracles And Merits Of Allah's Messenger
The book then discusses the blessed and beautiful characteristics and merits of the Prophet and then goes on to describe the miracles that he performed. Ibn Kathir than compares the miracles given to Prophet Muhammad with those that were given to the other Prophets; he then shows that Prophet Muhammad collectively received the same miracles that were granted to the other Prophets separately.
5. In Defence of the True Faith
The battles, expeditions and peace treaties undertaken in the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). This volume contains a detailed account of the most momentous events from the Battle of Badr to the Battle of Mu'tah -that occurred to the Muslims under the leadership of the Messenger of Allah. Many of these events have become immortalized by the Noble Qur'an and continue to provide invaluable lessons to humanity, now and forever.
6. Winning The Hearts and Soul - Expeditions and Delegations the lifetime of Prophet Muhammad (SAW).
This volume contains an account of the some of the most important expeditions and delegations that occurred in the lifetime and under the leadership of the Messenger of Allah. These events had a significant impact on the spread of the Islamic faith to all the corners of Arabia and beyond.
7. The Caliphate of Banu Umayyah : The First Phase
It starts from The rule of Mu'awiyah bin Abi Sufyan in the 41st year of Hijrah up to the rule of Caliph Marwan Al-Himar in year 132 of the Hijrah.
8. Book of the End : Great Trials & Tribulations
In this volume author has presented the signs of the Hour and the events that are yet to take place, although mentioning very few examples of those prophesies that have already been realized.
About Hafiz Ibn Kathir:
Emaad Ed-Deen Isma'eel Ibn 'Umar Ibn ibn Kathir, originally from Busra (Syria) and raised in Damascus. He followed the Shafi`ee school of thought. Ibn Kathir was born in the year 700 AH or little later in an area called Majdal, near Busra, west of Damascus. His father died when he was only four years old and was taken in by his brother and moved to Damascus in 706. Here, he learned from great scholars such as Ibn Asakir, Ishaq ibn Yahya al-Amudi and the great Ibn Taymiyyah who was extremely close to him. He also studied under various other sheikhs who gave him permission in fiqh and Hadith. He made many academic contributions to Islamic sciences.

Tafseer of the Qur'an, Al-Bidayah wan-Nihayah: a history of Muslims from Adam until Ibn Kathir's time, At-Takmeel: a book on the science of Asmaaul Rijal (profiles of transmitters of Hadith), Jami`ul Masaneed: a book that collects the Hadith from ten major books of Hadith, , The classes of Shafi`ee scholars: a list of scholars following the Imam, Extraction of the traditions of Tanbeeh (a Shafi`ee book of jurisprudence), The commentary on al-Bukhari (which he did not finish), The book of laws (again, he did not complete it), The summary to the science of Hadith; a synopsis to the introduction of Ibn Saah's work, Extraction of the traditions to the summary of Ibn Hajib, Musnad of the two sheikhs (Abu Bakr and Umar), Biography of the Prophet, sallallahu `alayhi wa sallam, The epistle of Jihad.
Many of These have been translated into the English Language (Even though some are Abrdged Translations).
Al-Hafiz Ibn hajar Al-Asqalani said, Ibn Kathir lost his sight just before his life ended. He died in Damascus in 774A.H. May Allah grant him Mercy and make him amongst the residents of Jannah (Heavenly Garden).
